Chapter 1: The Story of the 120

It took me roughly five years to hike all 120 of the 4000 foot and higher mountains in the entire Northeast.  I started with Peakbagger.com's Northeast USA 4000-foot Peaks list and then due to unforeseen circumstances and some sentimentality added five "almost 4000 footers".

Prior to hiking the 120 I had virtually no experience hiking, it had never crossed my mind, and didn't even know where there were mountains near me, except for those on either side of a highway which passed through Franconia Notch, in New Hampshire.

My first hike up a mountain (or least an attempt at it) was Mt. Lafayette.  Actually, on that fateful day I didn't even make it to the top, but I enjoy being out on the trail and in the sunshine and the peace so much that I wanted to do it again the next week.   Next week I tried again, but on a mountain that I thought I might be able to summit, because I had done it as a youth.  Mt. Monadnock.  The rest as they say was "history".

All of the hikes were day hikes, and ranged in length from a mere 4 hours (at the very beginning of this) to the longest being 19 hours (Mt. Mc Naughton).

The narrative in "The Story" is only partially complete, 12 pages worth.  I will have more to come.
