Hiking

Although I've hiked in a number of different places, THIS hiking refers specifically to hiking the 115 mountains in the Northeast that are 4000 ft. and higher, and 5 almost 4000 footers that I added in due to the nature of the grouping and also some for sentimentality on my part.  They reside in four states, and the book is organized that way.  Going west to east, they are:

  • New York

  • Vermont

  • New Hampshire

  • Maine

When I first starting hiking, I had no intention of hiking 120 mountains.  I simply wanted to hike "somewhere" in order to forget my woes at that time, which consisted of being fired from a job by a very malicious and manipulative boss, and the possibility of being destitute and homeless.  I knew nothing about hiking, never mind mountains, and did not even know where there were mountains in the region of the country in which I lived.  I had occasional heard of one or two of these mountains, but had no really idea where they were, or any concept of what they were all about.

It's funny how a bad event can completely change the course of your life (for the good), and open you up to a world you had no idea even existed.  Shown here is a coffee table book I am creating to show my friends some of the hiking I did on those 120 mountains.
